Bear with me as we look at the Bamboo plant. First of all it is a very hardy plant. It can live to well beyond seventy-years. Initially when it's young and spindly it doesn't look like much. But never fear for the first three to four years there is much going on in the soil below. In fact, the roots are taking hold and establishing themselves so they can support its life span with continued growth.
They say: Seeing is believing! But for me, Believing is seeing! Believing is the magic in reaching your goals. One of my favourite quotes is from the famous Dutch post-impressionist painter - Vincent Van Gogh who said:
"I Dream My Painting and Then I Paint My Dream"
Such is the case for goal setting. We start out with lofty goals so big and exciting. It puts a smile on our face and skip in our step. We have no idea on how to get there but that's not the point. It's what we truly desire. And so begin!
The first day we put everything into it and we're happy about that. The second day, takes a little more work but again, well done. Now the third day, we're just not so sure and something comes up and provides us with a little relief. Before you know it, you're not working on your dreams any longer and back to your regular life. Now it may not be what you want, but you know how to do it. When we finally get back to our dream, we can't see any progress for all the effort we've put in and now we're starting to question if it is really possible?
See - we haven’t given our roots the time to take hold support our dreams. Without this, during times of uncertainty or challenge it is easy to give up. Here's a secret for why we have trouble manifesting our dreams. Each time we give up, we're secretly telling the Universe we weren't really serious about that particular thing. We haven't learned how to nurture our dreams to fruition!
In order to grow our Bamboo requires some attention. Water, fertilizer and pulling weeds. Will you take the same time for your own life?
If you ask people if they have a goal, very few would say that they do. Even fewer would be able to say they it's written down some where.
Take the time now to think about where you would like to be in ten or twenty years. Create a big picture of what that looks like for you. Pull out your journal, a pen and paper and write it down, then put it in a place where it will not be forgotten. Then check in once in a while. Is what you're doing heading you in the right direction?
